best hamburger in The Netherlands

As if you already needed more reasons to visit Rotterdam, the local restaurant Ter Marsch & Co now officially serves the best hamburger in The Netherlands. Locals already knew it was one the places that deserved a place in our TOM 5: Best burgerbars in Rotterdam, but with this title they definitely went straight to the top of that list!

Update 29/04/15: after eating more than 35 hamburgers the last few weeks, I have updated the list of best hamburger restaurants in Rotterdam. Want to find out if Ter Marsch is still the best, check the blogpost here!

Great quality meat for over a century

The original Ter Marsch & Co was a shop of a meat factory and opened it’s doors in Rotterdam back in 1890. Ever since they made sure that the best meat in town was available for all the meat lovers. Today it is a small but popular restaurant and bar in the hottest street in town: Witte de Withstraat. After the reopening, it’s industrial look and informal atmosphere, combined with the good quality of the dishes turned it into one of the most popular places to hang out and grab a good burger (or something else).

The winner: De Burgeresse by Ter Marsch & Co

No reservations are taken, so just walk in and have a drink at the bar before you can taste the great taste of the Angus-beef burger. Last year Ter Marsch & Co won several (mainly local) awards, but this year at the Horecava (International Trade Fair for the Hotel and Catering Industry) they won the 1st prize after surprising the jury with a very special hamburger. The combination of Angus and Wagyu beef, fresh truffle, Spanish white onion and a salted bun is named Burgeresse and obviously tasted as well as it sounded. By the way, Ter Marsch is not only a burgerbar, their dry aged meat comes in different varieties as you can see on their menu.

Want to give it a try yourself?

Ter Marsch & Co is open 7 days a week. The kitchen closes at 10 pm, but bar is open till late. Since they do not take reservations you can just walk in at Witte de Withstraat 70 (next to King Kong Hostel). In case you are interested, read about the best burgerbars in Rotterdam (2014).
